Comment period extended for North End zoning charette

City residents who couldn’t make it to the North End character-based zoning charette in mid-November will have a second chance to share their thoughts on the neighborhood’s future. The city’s planning department is extending the public comment deadline to Monday, Dec. 15. The November design charette included presentations from city officials and roundtable discussions with residents and planners about bringing character-based zoning to the North End. Character-based zoning, which was adopted in the downtown zoning district in April focuses less on specific land uses and emphasizes the scale, design, and placement of buildings. A copy of the preliminary “vision plan” and other documents from the charette are available at planportsmouth.com. Comments can be emailed to [email protected] or submitted by phone by calling the planning department at 603-610-7216.
