Chases Garage opens its gallery for the season with a reception for “Sticks and Stones” on Saturday, May 23, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The York, Maine gallery’s new exhibition is built around the elements of paper, wood, and ceramic. “A combination of both sculptural and functional, the artwork depicts a playful connection to the natural world,” said co-owner and artist Cait Giunta.

It features the work of four Maine artists and introduces Patrick Scully, a Connecticut-based artist inspired by ancient Mesoamerican ritual. Giunta is showing new stick-fort illustrations and found object and ceramic sculpture. Ned Roche presents silkscreen prints based on his ceramic sculpture. Mary Sweeney makes raku, reduction, wood, and salt-fired ceramics. There are also primordial landscapes in acrylic and pen and ink illustrations on panel by Tara Morin. The contemporary artwork is accompanied by curated objects from Smith-Zukas Antiques.

The show runs through July 11, and the gallery season continues into November.
