Artstream moves to Rollinsford

Artstream is relocating from Dover to a new space in Rollinsford on Oct. 26.

“It’s really perfect for what we want to do,” said Susan Schwake, who co-owns Artstream with her husband, Rainer Schwake.

The gallery and art school has been at 10 Second St. in Dover for two and a half years, and was in downtown Rochester for about 11 years prior to that. It’s currently located in a building that’s for sale, so the owners decided to make a proactive change.

Artstream’s owners came close to renting a studio space in Portsmouth’s Button Factory, but decided on a building in Rollinsford, across the street from artist studios in The Mills at Salmon Falls instead. The new address is 20 Front St.

An open house with a free “make and take” workshop is scheduled for Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schwake will also be launching the latest book in her Kids Art Series, “Art Camp.”

The new space is in a historic brick building with natural light coming through large display windows. It’s comfortable and warm, has flexible space, and free parking, according to Schwake.

“It’s absolutely got so much character, which is a huge bonus,” she said. “It’s beautiful inside.”

Schwake said Rollinsford is more centrally located for her students, the area is filled with other artists, and the community has been “overwhelmingly welcoming.”

In addition to offering classes for all ages year round, Artstream will continue to present exhibitions, rotating every few months, and occasional events incorporating poetry and music. And there are plans to participate when the Artists of Salmon Falls holds their annual Open Studios event, this year on Nov. 21 and 22.
